New Mexico, or simply New Mexico, is a state located in the southwestern region of the United States. New Mexico became the 47th state on January 6, 1912. It is often referred to as a "mountain state." New Mexico has the fifth-largest area, the 36th-largest population, and the sixth-lowest population density of the 50 US states. With a total area of 121,699 square miles (315,200 km2), the state is America's fifth-largest state and slightly larger than the British Isles. According to the 2018 census, New Mexico's population is estimated at 2.1 million, making it the sixth least densely populated place in the United States. And this is also home to the most Hispanic people living in the US, with a rate of more than 48%.
